Cyprus is like all the other islands in the Mediterranean with lots of sunshine all the year round. Cyprus might almost be the reference location for all other Mediterranean locations when it comes to clement weather conditions all the year round. This is because there are no extreme temperatures to be found in Cyprus. All through the year, every month and day, the weather is such that there is always something to be enjoyed.
Summer
The summer season is from May through October and features the highest temperatures with cloudless skies and cool winds coming in from the sea. This is the season to go swimming, sunbathing, scuba diving, and a vast range of water sports that can be enjoyed at Cyprus. Other outdoors activities include the exploration of the archaeological sites in the morning or late afternoon with a swim thrown in the middle. Even if you find the summer temperatures too much for you (90 Fahrenheit) in the summer than you can either move closer to the beach or, far better, you could move into the vicinity of the Troodos Mountains where you can enjoy hiking. Water sports can be enjoyed right up to the month of October when the weather is still warm though considering cooler than previous months.
If you happen to be in Lemesos during the first week of September then you can enjoy the annual Wine Festival there.
Autumn
By the end of October there is a noticeable drop in the ambient temperature and the trees begin to change color. By mid-November, it is advisable to carry medium-weight apparel if you are visiting Cyprus as the air can be distinctively chilly in the morning and evenings. Though colder, it is still time to go swimming at this time of the year and the vineyards will now be active so that you can enjoy some really good excursions to the villages and the surrounding wine merchants. At this time there is also the annual Kypria Festival featuring prestigious local and international artists from the field of music and drama that give performances at many venues all through Cyrpus.
Winter
The Mediterranean winter is from December through February. During this season, the average time for bright sunshine is about 6 hours per day. If you study the Mediterranean you will discover that most of the destinations in that area shut down during these months by Cyprus keeps going. Being a business center in addition to offering some important heritage and museum sites, the island continues to stay busy even in winter. The Troodos Mountains undergo a transformation in winter with the snow covered slopes now providing some ideally space for skiing enthusiasts instead of hikers.
Spring
After the mild winter, spring is in full sway by the close of March. This is the best time for people who like nature hikes. The Akamas Peninsula offers some nice opportunities for people who like off-road adventures. Nature lovers will get to witness the 1950 species of flowers (140 of these grow nowhere else in the world).
